The MEHS Instrumental Music Program
from Hayward, CA

Photobucket"

Welcome to the official website of the nationally-ranked Mount Eden High School Band program! We're currently a small group from a relatively large school in Hayward, California. This band program is composed of musicians from the 8th through 12th grades. The members are exposed to basic music theory, intermediate to advanced musical concepts, rehearsal techniques, and performance excellence.

Under the direction of Mr. Kevin Cato, the band has had the opportunity to compete in numerous state and national competitions. Because of our success during previous seasons, we were nominated as one of the "Top 20 Bands in America." This nomination was an invitation for a prime national title through the Festival of Gold competition held in Boston, Massachusetts during April 2007. As a result of our achievement in this competition, the MEHS Instrumental Music Program is recognized as a "Top 10 Instrumental Music Program in America" and the MEHS Wind Ensemble is a "Top 5 Wind Band in America". Such recognition has been an honor for the City of Hayward and the State of California.

As a result of recent successes in the 2007-2008 school year, with first place wins around Northern California and Hawaii, the Mt. Eden High Wind Ensemble has been invited to perform as a part of the National Band and Orchestral Festival at the world renowned Carnegie Hall in New York City, April 2009.
