How can I help support the MEHSband program?
1) Come to our fundraisers & performances -
Purchase & Sell tickets while Spreading the word!
One more way to help is to participate in band fundraisers (click) and to come to our performances (click)! We have annual crab feeds, casino bus trips, spaghetti dinners, concerts, carwashes, cookie dough sales, jamba juice sales, Raider and Cal game concessions, and more! Contact director Kevin Cato at cakvin25@aol.com for more information.
2) SHARES Grocery Card
Simply use a S.H.A.R.E.S card whenever you go buy your groceries at these places : Lucky's, FoodMaxx, SmartFoods, SaveMart. We will earn a percentage of your qualified purchase!!! Contact Mrs. Spiteri (silviaspiteri@sbcglobal.net) for more information.
3) Recycling Program
Bring in plastic bottles, used laser/inkjet cartridges, and old cell phones so we can recycle them for funds. Contact Ms. Rivas (Margaret.Rivas@acgov.org) for more information.
4) Purchase Ad Space in our Ad Book
Another way to help out is to purchase an advertisement space in our Ad Book (click). Prices are $25 for 1/4 page, $50 for 1/2 page, and $100 for a whole page. Again, you can write a check to Mt. Eden High School Account #303. Funds will go toward the general band fund unless otherwise noted in your check's memo. You can use your ad space to advertise your business, for a shout out, etc., for extra publicity at band concerts. Contact director Kevin Cato at cakvin25@aol.com for more information.
5) Partially Sponsor a Student
The most straight-forward method to support individual students in our program is to partially sponsor an individual student's trip. You can write a check to Mt. Eden High School Account #303, noting the specific student you are funding in the memo. Donations of any amount will be gratefully accepted - it may be humble as $5, $10, $50, $100, or if you're feeling generous maybe even more; the sky's the limit. Contact band director Kevin Cato for more information about sponsoring and which students are in need of sponsorship at cakvin25@aol.com
6) We can also do paid gigs!
Need a quartet or quintet for an event? We can provide any ensemble to meet your needs (example: jazz, string, or wind quartets, or a whole band). Contact director Kevin Cato at cakvin25@aol.com for more information.
Honorable Mention : Wayne Jopanda
Wayne Jopanda, sophomore and bass player, has been accepted into National Honor Orchestra! This is an immense honor for Wayne, the MEHSband, the city of Hayward and the state of California. Wayne also plays percussion. See the article in the Daily Review about this achievement, written by staff writer Kris Noceda (12/23/07).
However, Wayne is in need financial support so he can participate in the once in a lifetime opportunity! Even though he has been accepted into this orchestra, he needs to pay participation fees. Help Wayne by contacting him at kenjipanda@yahoo.com ! Congratulations, Wayne! :)
